But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
One identifying mark of a disciple is his or her willingness to offer forgiveness. All forgiveness may have a starting point but ultimately forgiveness is a process. The first stage is to evaluate your feelings. You recognize that someone has hurt you; it is unfair and it will continue to be unfair. The second stage is emotion. It is reasonable to possess anger, resentment, or bitterness. The third stage is when you eliminate the emotion and replace it with mercy. You have the right to the negative emotion, but forgiveness requires you give it up. Only Jesus can soften your edges to make it possible to forgive. As you extend mercy to the one who hurt you, you become the one who heals.
Pray for the power to forgive despite the difficulty.
