Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is very useful to me.
2 Timothy 4:11

Paul did not always find John Mark useful. In fact, in the book of Acts, (written before the second letter to Timothy), Luke notes that Mark actually deserted Paul on a previous missionary trip. It is important to be alert and available for the call of Jesus, but once you begin the work you cannot stand idle. Mark missed out on ministry opportunities because he was a slacker. Obviously, he found his errors in reasoning, because Paul, ultimately, called him “useful” for service. If you have found yourself slacking when it comes to the follow through, take the next right step and be useful for Jesus.

Pray that you are fit to follow and focused on God’s call.
