A friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
Our pursuit of happiness is hostile to the pursuit of holiness. Those searching for happiness are not seeking His Kingdom. You cannot admire yourself and adore God at the same time. Christians should be prepared to be afflicted in every way. “Count it all joy when you meet trials of various kinds” (James 1:2). Do you follow Jesus in the blessings and the burdens? Ultimately, a friend of God in the calamity is abundantly safer than a friend of the devil in the calm.
Pray to live as a friend of God.
