Conflict is caused by the desires that battle within you.
We perceive that external circumstances are the causes of fighting and quarreling. James reminds us that relational conflict is the result of internal cravings. Our flesh insists on being right. We demand to advance our own personal agenda. It is highly deficient to resolve the conflict by ironing out the differences. It only gets us so far. Removing differences to resolve difficulties never gets to the root. “Walk by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh” (Gal. 5:16). If you want to resolve conflict, start with your own sin. It is far easier to see the grace of God at work in others when we personally receive it.
Pray for your own heart change in relational conflict.
