Physical training is of some value, but godliness has value…for the life to come.
1 Timothy 4:8
The world is fixated on physical fitness. We all strive to eat better, lose weight, or gain muscle. Many people put a lot of time and money into physical improvement. A focus on physical training is fleeting, but spiritual training is eternally essential. If people begin physical training and lose interest, their muscle will lose effectiveness (atrophy). In the same way, disciples who neglect spiritual training will develop an absence of concern for Christ (apathy). Spiritual apathy can be eliminated with a focus on spiritual training or act(ions) of righteousness. Christians must give for financial flexibility; pray to maintain a hopeful heart, and fast to increase spiritual strength (Matt. 6).
